Tools recommend for coding: I recommend BMW Scanner 1.4 (PA Soft) which is about $25 on eBay to change the dealer options like turning off DRLs. PC requirement: It has driver on CD only for Windows XP. Customer has to find your own driver for 64bits Windows 7. Here is instruction:
1. Download driver and extract it:
2. Click start button, right click on computer and hit manage.
3. Click on Device manager and scroll to Universal Serial Bus controller.
4. Next chose the USB Root Hubs at the last and right click and then Update driver.
5. Then 'Browse my computer for driver software'
6. Choose 'let me pick from a list of device drivers'
7. Then chose 'Have Disk'
8. Browse to where you extracted the above file and select ftdibus and hit ok.
9. From the list I choose usb serial convert A and click install

11. Turn off your internet, then plug BMW scanner into car and then into computer. Win7 will say it cant install device
12. Go back to device manger and find BMWscanner that should have a yellow ! next to it. Right click, update driver and install the same driver you did for the first usb hub. It might error out. Open up BMWScanner software and it should know show up that drivers installed and connected to car!
For certain models of BMW (such as 2005 330Ci), you may need to soldering pin 7/8 in the cable to make it working.
